Our Programs and Services

FUNdamentals Occupational Therapy is a paediatric occupational clinic located in Byford WA. It offers clinic-based services in a home setting.

Assessments

Assessments at FUNdamentals Occupational Therapy are comprehensive and designed to determine the fundamental cause, of your child’s difficulties. Each assessment is tailored to the specific needs of your child.

Specific assessment packages are available for

WACE special provisions assessment of dysgraphia

Students sitting their year 12 WACE examinations can apply for special provisions such as use of a keyboard, extra time or rest time. Dysgraphia assessments and reports are completed at FUNdamentals Occupational Therapy.

Academic literacy
screenings

Students experiencing difficulty in literacy and numeracy can be screened using norm-referenced diagnostic tests. These assessments will give an indication of specific areas of deficits and will assist in developing a remediation or tuition program.

Individualised therapy sessions

Individualised therapy sessions are generally 45-50 minutes in length and include a feedback session to the parent or caregiver. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to be active participants in all sessions, as this will assist them in supporting their child at home or school.

Sessions are tailored to meet the parent and carer’s goals for their child and support is provided to assist them in working towards these goals at home, school or in the community.

Group therapy sessions

Upon the request of families, group therapy sessions are available. Groups will be made up of individuals with similar interests, needs and goals. Sessions will generally run for 1 hour and will be organised around specific skills or goals.

Examples of group therapy programs include:

  • Sensory integration (developing skills through movement)
  • Social and play skills (developing skills through communication)
  • Fine motor and handwriting skills (developing skills through craft and writing)

Gross motor skills (developing skills through active games)

Holiday programs

Holiday programs may be available during some school holidays and during the summer holidays. This will be dependent on demand.

Holiday programs may include:

  • Sensory integration (developing skills through movement)
  • Social and play skills (developing skills through communication)
  • Fine motor and handwriting skills (developing skills through craft and writing)
  • Gross motor skills (developing skills through active games)

School readiness (developing the ability to successfully engage in school)

School and home visits

School and home visits can be arranged upon your request. Occupational therapists can use these visits as opportunity to

  • Liaise with classroom teachers, education assistants and other school personnel
  • Observe your child at school or home to assist in developing a program for them

Help parents and teachers set up their home or school to meet the needs of your child

Professional development

Professional development is available to parent groups, schools, dental and medical clinics and other interested and invested organisations.

Topics for professional development can be tailored to the needs of your organisation but may include:

  • Preparing your child for school
  • Understanding sensory processing
  • Managing screen time
  • Developing fine and gross motor skills
  • Activities to improve attention and concentration
